Recently, our friend visited the UK from Australia. While they were still here, I queried how long the flight was, to which they answered that the flight took 21+ hours, the flight was not direct with a change-over, and the 2nd leg was about 14 hours.
This exchange got me thinking. Have any of us ever gotten tired of a long flight that we decided we had had enough and the pilot should let us off right there -mid-air…. 😂
Funny right?😂 ( I laugh again because I just imagined it!)
However, most of us do with our dreams and goals. We get on the flight of our dreams and jump out mid-air!
At the first instance of any challenge, we decide we have had enough and move on. At times, the desire for commitment after a few hurdles is gone.
Can we be in it for the 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗹? 🤔
YES, we can, unless they were never really a dream, goal, or aspiration.
By no means am I propagating that when you see it is not working, you should still carry on regardless.
What I am saying is that the same evaluation that comes into play when considering a long-haul flight may be helpful with our goals, visions, and dreams. Such as:
- 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: Just the same way you may want to go to Sidney and you do not buy a ticket to New Zealand, the same way you need to get clarity on your vision, dreams, and goals, and this would be who you want to impact, why, and how?
- Action: Action brings more clarity. What action(s) do you initiate toward your dreams and goals? For a flight, we can start with buying a ticket to make the trip. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said, “A goal without a plan is a wish”
- Reason (Why): The reason you want to make the trip must be of value to you, a dream holiday, a family you desperately want to visit, etc. In the same way, your why for wanting to achieve this dream or goal must also be important to you. If I borrow a quote from Simon Sinek, “𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙗𝙪𝙮 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤; 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙗𝙪𝙮 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤 it”
My why is to help as many people as possible get clarity on their dreams to see if they are worth pursuing and if they are to create space with accountability for them to make it a reality with great success.
